First of all, we would like to wish all North Americans happy July holidays, whether you are celebrating Canada Day, Independence Day--or both. Back in 1998, the idea of supplying you with your favorite candy bars from north of the border was just an idea. By November of 1999, we were up and running. Things have changed a bit since then, but those of you who have been with us for awhile know that the basic purpose for our business has never changed. We have focused on the Internet since the beginning. If it wasn't for the great family relationship Canada and the United States have, ventures like ours and countless others wouldn't be possible. So we will celebrate these holidays with gratefulness for the gift of freedom that we may sometimes take for granted.

Panhandle Premium is not operating on a whim or to trying to clone another business to try to do the same thing that someone else was already doing. This is not just a hobby. It has all been possible because our loyal customers like you have stuck with us in this sometimes very challenging venture. We offer you a sincere thank-you.

Vacation season is once again upon us. Although we don't offer products that you can season up then slap onto your sizzling grill, we are featuring a few products that you can take on vacation with you. When you share candy products made in Canada with others who are not familiar with it, most of the time the recipients are very surprised about the taste and quality of the chocolate bars. Take some Mackintosh's Toffee with you and share it with your relatives. Send a package of Smarties in the mail to your friend you know is from Canada but living in the US. Help us spread the word about how good this stuff really is.

Oftentimes when I meet someone who lives in Canada and tell them what this venture is all about, the response is "don't they already have that there?" Of course I am usually prepared with a response like "they do now," or something like that. Seriously, we are thankful for the difference in the selections of candy bars in each country. We wouldn't exist without it.

With this special, you must contact us by phone or email to get your 8 free bars of your choice. Go ahead and order as normal, but don't wait long to contact us for your free bars or your order will be promptly shipped as usual. Click here and order one of these three products on our website. Then shoot us an email citing the 8 bars you want. You can also phone in your order at 800-777-7794. Hurry, the offer expires on July 8.

We are continuing to offer Priority Shipping for $9.95 on all regular candy bar orders of 48 bars or less. This option is simple to select when you order, just make sure you order 48 bars or less when ordering and make the proper shipping selection. It usually ends up costing less than Ground Shipping.
We are still filling as many special orders as we can (that is, items that are not listed in our Internet store). Let us know if there is a special product from Canada that you would like. (Please note, there is generally a longer waiting time and a minimum order of $75 for special orders. We also require that you give us the name and address of the manufacturer.)
If you would like to see your favorite Canadian bars in your local store, feel free to give the store owner/buyer our contact information, or forward their information to us. We offer wholesale pricing on volume purchases.
We hope to be able to stock Nestle Harvest Mini Bars year-round now. We have had trouble with this in the past, but it appears it could become a reality. Remember, these are made in Nestle's peanut free factory. Lowney's Cherry Blossoms have also returned for you addicts out there.

CANDY FACTS
•Canada was the 8th largest importer of of cocoa beans in the world, with an average of 81,300 metric tonnes a year between 1994-98.
•During the same period, the United States imported an average of 559,600 metric tonnes, which was nearly 1/4 the world's production of cocoa beans.
•In Switzerland, the average person consumed 10,180 grams of chocolate in 1995-96. Germany and Belgium were closely behind, with both cracking the 10,000 gram barrier. Sweet people.
•Compare this to Canada's 5,410 gram average and 5,320 grams in the United States. Canada's average comes out to about one chocolate bar every three days. Come on North Americans, are we going to stand for this?

•In 1999-2000, The Ivory Coast in Africa produced about 1.3 million metric tonnes of cocoa beans, or 43 percent of the world's production.
