Spring 2005

Panhandle Newsletter

News & Notes:

From Panhandle Premium Founder Mark Grim

To our valued friends:

To many, Spring is the best time of year.  Here in the Pacific Northwest, the Spring season is really a spectacular experience (Panhandle Premium is located just south of Vancouver, BC).  I always get the feeling of my chilled winter bones warming up as the spring sunshine returns every year.

Many of us are missing NHL hockey this year.  Although this is disappointing, there are other activities that we can focus on. Many of us will be pulling for Mike Weir to win a second green jacket at The Masters in early April. The course is definitely well-suited for his game. Others can look outdoors to gardening, fishing etc.

PRICE ROLLBACKS

In the world of Panhandle Premium, we are excited to be offering Spring price rollbacks. Combine these rollbacks with our great special on Priority 2-3 day Shipping, there is definitely no better place to get your favorite candy with prompt service. Most boxes of 48 bars are now $39, while most boxes of 36 are just $29. Most box purchases of 48 bars for just $39 and 36 bars for just $29!

  • We are continuing to offer Priority Shipping for $9.95 on all regular candy bar orders of 48 bars or less. This option is simple to select when you order, just make sure you order 48 bars or less when ordering and make the proper shipping selection. It usually ends up costing less than Ground Shipping.

  • We are still trying to fill as many special orders as we can (that is, items that are not listed in our Internet store).  Let us know if there is a special product from Canada that you would like. (Please note, there is generally a longer waiting time and a minimum order of $75 for special orders. We also require that you give us the name and address of the manufacturer.)

  • Again, if you would like to see your favorite Canadian bars in your local store, feel free to give the store owner/buyer our contact information, or forward their information to us. We offer wholesale pricing on larger volume purchases.

  • Red Ones Last?    As you might guess, Smarties is out in front of M&M's in the debate. Click here to read responses. You can still voice your opinion. Which you think is better, Smarties or M&M's?  Please click on the link below and give your answer and explain why.  We will include the results including your comments in the near future. Please include your name and town with your answer. Email your answer by clicking here Smarties-M&Ms debate

  • We still have some Nestle Harvest Mini Bars in stock   Remember, these are made in Nestle's peanut free factory.  Lowney's Cherry Blossoms have also returned.

FUN CANADIAN CANDY FACTS
•In 1999, the caramel used to fill all the Caramilk bars sold in Canada weighed almost as much as nine full-grown blue whales.
•Crispy Crunch was developed in 1923 at the suggestion of Cadbury employee Harold Oswin, who was paid $5 for the recipe.
•Eat-More, one of the few candy bars not covered in chocolate, is more popular in Alberta than anywhere else in  Canada. Quebecers prefer Cherry Blossoms and Mirage.
•If laid out end to end, all the Mr. Big bars sold in Canada last year (1999) would stretch from Vancouver to Ottawa.
•Canadians eat 875 Smarties every minute. There are approximately 56 Smarties in every box, including blue ones, which replaced light-brown ones in 1987.

Lisa Dressel wins drawing!

Congratulations to Lisa Dressel of Carlsbad, California, for winning our Spring drawing for 24 candy bars of her choice (she chose 24 Aero bubbly milk chocolate bars) . Lisa submitted the following information after she found out she won:

 Aero Bubbly

Wow! I never win anything! This is really fun. I live in Carlsbad, California with my Southern California native husband and 2 children. I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and have very fond memories of spending my allowance on Aero, Coffee Crisp, Smarties, and Big Turk bars at the corner store. I moved to San Diego 21 years ago to attend UCSD. I missed my Canadian candies, and would bring some back with me every time I went to visit my folks. I got my husband hooked on Coffee Crisp and dark chocolate Aero bars the first time he visited Calgary. My kids think Canadian chocolate bars are vastly superior to the US versions (especially Smarties vs M&Ms) and a few years ago we discovered Panhandle Premium when they wanted to give out Canadian Smarties for Halloween. The kids have shared our love for Canadian chocolate bars with friends, and neighbors. We’ve given information for the Panhandle Premium website to many of them. Thank you very much

There are now two ways to enter our drawing. First, register to receive updates from Panhandle Premium at the bottom of this page.  The second option is to tell a friend about this website (or anyone).  Fax or email us proof that you told someone and you will be entered into a drawing for 24  candy bars in June 2005.  Proof can include a copy of an e-mail you sent or an e-mail from the person you told to Panhandle Premium. To e-mail us, click here.  Our fax number is 360-671-1646.  Please include a phone number so we can contact you if you win because e-mail is becoming an unreliable means to contact the winner. We pledge that we will not use this number for any other reason than to contact you in the event you win.  Help us promote our site and you also could win 24 scrumptious bars!

Thanks and see you next time.
