TRYING TIMES FOR IMPORTERS Most of our readers already know about the recent upsurge of the Canadian Loonie, especially in comparison with the US
dollar. While this is good news for Canada on many fronts, many who make a living importing (or exporting) Canadian goods into the US are surely struggling right now.
CDN BARS ALREADY EXPENSIVE This is even more difficult for companies importing goods that were already higher priced in Canada than in the US (for example, chocolate bars). Even before the recent surge, wholesale suppliers in Canada were selling chocolate bars for about 25 percent more than
wholesalers in the US (after the prices were both converted into US dollars). For some reason, chocolate bars have always been much more expensive in Canada. Now, with the recent 22 percent increase in the value of the Loonie to the USD (since April 1, 2007), Canadian suppliers are selling wholesale chocolate bars at 45-60 percent higher than
wholesalers in the US. OUCH!
CASES STILL $46 In
spite of all of this, we are going to try to keep our prices as low as we can. Our case prices for 48 bars will remain at $46 for the time being. We hope we can keep the price at that level. This is still a good deal with Priority Shipping (ground is even less). We hope our customers will remain loyal to us in this trying time. We hope for the best
for both the Canadian and the US economies. We want you to know that we value each and every one of you and appreciate your patronage.
A TESTIMONIAL Thank you so much! You folks are just great. Most of all I want to thank you for the email you sent October 26. I was so undecided what to do for Halloween and was trying to decide between Harry & David and See's
Candies. I hadn't even thought of you. Panhandle Premium was the perfect answer. We have five grandchildren in Indianapolis and two in Chicago and now I know they will be delighted. Thank you again. It's a long way from here to Vancouver (Bellingham). Please keep those reminder emails coming!
